Progress – The train stations, multi-level lane system, blocks of cars and new views

Hello everybody,

The challenge is becoming more and more exciting at every week. Congrats to all the challengers for the high level of work!

Today´s WIP is to show the new parts which together with the other ones will bring the city to life. Just a quick reminder on my concept: “The Beautiful, The Sustainable and the Spiritual”. It´s a city designed from the ground up with the human being and nature in mind. Those three points above, in the form of careful planning, landscaping, buildings, transportation, public spaces and quality will work together to bring the urban experience to a new level. The seasons represented will be spring and autumn.

Some quick facts:

1. The city has been planned and is being modeled to the correct scale, the major avenues have 4 lanes each way. The secondary streets have 4 lanes.

2. Most buildings have fifty floors, some towers are eighty-storey and the taller ones are a hundred-storey.

3. The train stations are a very important part of the city, the trains float at 40 meters high. The stations have a self supporting composite trellis which contains shops and snack bars just below the boarding platform. The trains are short but in a large number and reach almost all the city.

4. The multi-level lane system is used by that time. There are regular cars on the ground level and two more levels for floating/flying cars at 10 and 20 meters high. All the transportation is based on green energy.

More to come soon. The goal is to depict/represent a typical day in that city. I will give my best. The task is huge.

Sorry for the building blocks and the funky colors on the car blocks… :) They will be detailed.

Good luck!

The magnetic trains station and the overall trains concept is really really great! Seeing all the evolutions in the projects led me to think I need to reformulate and rethink better about my proposal, because it is just... so normal, so common.. it would be just another archviz maybe..

I'm reallly thinking about reformulating certain aspects of my city, let's see what things come on! Watching other's works makes us push our own boundaries! :D

Continue your great work!

Hi João,

Thank your very much for the comments and for the kind words.

We need to use this great opportunity to create, to make our best "architectural" dreams come true in the form of cities, buildings, images and emotions. If you think you need to reformulate, go for that....This is the right time! Go, go! :)

as I said in the beginning, you project seems like its gonna be huge, and its still growing.

Its sometimes very difficult to control big spaces without making a big mess of stuff just crammed together, so be sure to think through the positioning of buildings and use of free space in as ergonomic ways as possible :)

AndriusSkibaris Hi Andrius,

It´s good to "see" you around. Those are some of my concerns from the begining...One of the main points of my conceptual city is having big parks and a carefully planned layout so there will always be large spaces between the relevant buildings. Never, big mess of stuff, I hope! :) ....That´s why I keep rendering that aereal view of the whole city. I belive the human eye and more specifically the artist´s eye is trained to locate harmony and randomization...my goal is planning the city with a harmonic(beatiful landscaping and buildings) randomization (all the diversity which, together, forms a city). Thanks for the comments!

Huge task indeed, bit boy what an exciting one! It's great to start seeing street level POV's. Just to be sure - the cars and trains will "FLY" or will there be some rail system they latch on?

Also, are you going to add some low-rise buidlings / houses ... or do you go all they way with HIGH-RISE city and big parks below... a la corbu?

ronenbekerman Hi Ronen,

What an exciting challenge! The theme is so vast and there are so many different interpretations. Congrats!

There will be regular cars on the ground level, the floating/flying cars and the trains. The multi-level lane system adds the third dimension to the traffic. It takes the regular concept of street to a three level system. There is the asphalt for the regular cars and the whole mesh of streets works as a big electro-magnetic field so the cars and trains float at different heights. They can´t fly like helicopters or planes, they float at their specific heights. The concept takes the "Maglev" idea to a new level and takes in consideration more advanced technologies. The year is 2100.

I´ve been doing brainstorms about the size of the buildings...The big parks are a very important part of the concept, every block/quarter will be like an emtpy lawn and the buildings will seat on top of it. That will help to make a soft transition from the concrete/glass/steel of the buildings to the streets and leave space for different walkways and gardens. I like the idea of having low-rises and houses too. That´s another type of visual transition from the high-rises to the urban space. Let´s see what happens! Sorry for the long post! Thanks!

Those new points of view of your city enables me to understand better your idea. I'll continue following your progress.

cristobalena Yes...that´s the idea with the points of view. I would like everybody to have information to understand the whole concept and its details. Thanks, Cristo.
