Basic scene mockup

I decided to take a different approach for this than I would normally take.  Instead of designing a space from scratch I searched google for a space I could use as a starting block. I already had in mind that I wanted a tight space between buildings not at ground level. I wanted the space to be quite gritty, one that could really benefit from a green make over.

After many pages of looking at back alleys I came across this snapshot that someone had taken in Beijing.  Its not perfect which makes it perfect for my needs.  I have basically mocked it up – I have tweaked a few details for now here and there and made the space appear as if it wasn’t at ground level which was my original intention.  I have added a large building in the background and I may add some more depending on the final composition.  The arrangement of buildings is such that I can push and pull them around to eventually fit the garden in.

Its a start!

Hi Jamie, I like this concept of yours very much - and it is very cool how you found your starting point with it ;)

Addressing the sometimes dense urban fabric with dedicated floating green gardens is great idea, though currently - the 'Not on ground level' is not so noticeable.

Thinking about it a bit, it might be good to space the buildings apart more (as you mention you might) and allow access to the garden via small bridge paths to all of the surrounding buildings. I think this will make your idea even more valid and will add more depth and story possibilities to your image.

Looking forward very much to see where you are taking this one ;)

Good Luck!

Thanks Ronen

You are right. I think as soon as I start to add the greenery I will find I don't have enough space. I will also need to work on getting the feeling of suspended between the buildings as well.
